On Fat Shrove Pancake Tuesday, everyone’s welcome to come fill our place & pancakes (thanks to all those that filled it for a magnificent night on Saturday for our ecstatic Carnivalesque celebration!). Tuesday’s the penultimate day before the penance of Lent; let the last moments of ecstasy continue! Bring all those delicious things in the back of your cupboards and fridges. Folklore has it that unmarried girls get lucky on this night. We’ve always wanted to run pancake races down Shoreditch High Street – so bring your skills & skillets

On Saturday we’re the 56th day of the year and thus longitude 56. Memories of Africa & the MIddle East fade as we cling for one last week to the Arabian Peninsula (UAE & Oman) and drift through the eastern ex-Soviet republics – the stans (Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan & Uzbekistan, just days from the borders of Afghanstan and Pakistan). We’re in Iran (Tehran on Tues) – and in the news – as we sail straight through the stressed Strait of Hormuz, which shifts 35% of seaborne oil (NB Iran announced yesterday it’s stopped selling oil to the UK).
