How could I host one?
Check the calendar and see which dates are free and email us your request.
It’s best to avoid overlapping a dinner on the same day someone else is hosting.
We hope to develop a future website that will automate this procedure so you can book to host automatically.
Anyone can host.
What do I need to do once I’m hosting?
Check and respond to the RSVPs until you’re full (we can manage this if you prefer);
Email your guests with an intro, with your address and start-time, and kick-start the menu discussion.
Open your doors on the night, sit back and enjoy; and ask for whatever help you need.
Can I vary from the degree-a-day scan theme?
Yup. The scan is our default mode and ideally there’d be a dinner a day everywhere that covers all countries, with special events employing wider themes.
Any chosen theme should relate specifically to food and culture. A clear and useful departure might be e.g. the celebration of a national or cultural festival – sites like this are very useful in listing them.
Some examples of additional themes we’ve done: The Politics of Food; Cooking with Flowers; Edible Edifices; Food on Film & Cinematic Cuisine; Cooking the Neighbours; Christmas around the World; the Big Lunch
Can I limit the choice to just 1 country?
Yup.
Does it need to be from the scanline?
Yup – unless you’ve got good reason not to.
How do I know which country to cook from?
It’s the same as for guests.
Who cleans up?
We all do. It’s much quicker if everyone helps. If people know they have to leave early, they can help out a little earlier. It shouldn’t be any fuss and is way easier than hosting a normal dinner party.
