latcui 5.08 – longitude 54 Last Week Alicia shared the Valentinal love; she tells me “Persia featured heavily but we also had delicious dishes from Georgia, Ethiopian Pumpkin Wat (which provoked What? jokes all night), Madagascar and Russia…. & a dessert that was comprised of (apparently) only chocolate and vodka from LuLu, and a very alcoholic cocktail that could be eaten with a spoon.“ 2 days later we gathered at Isabella, Claire and Daniel’s for an explosion of gorgeousness that paid tribute to her part-Iranian heritage, with a rare whiff of Madagasar. Our monumental menu included Iranian Mirse Ghasemi (egg/tomato/aubergine salad), Noon o panir (mint&cheese flatbreads) and Madagascan patties for starters;  Iranian chicken tagine, lamb kabob & apple/almond/cinnamon/carrot salad, Russian Stroganoff, Madagascan butter-bean stew, chicken stew and brandied pork – and a doubly-topical Afghan horse stew (meat suddenly hard to find outside newspaper columns, so “beef used in this instance“) for mains. Iranian Tut almond sweets and rosewater pound-cake, Russian Ruski Kake triple-berry cake, and an incredible, oozing Madagascan Tropical Cake all combined for the final orgasmic stab in the heart. This Week Dunno. Vale & Hix – our superb last lat-Berlin hosts – are having babies (literally). Mo’s place is too small. Oliver’s AWOL. I’m too embarrassed to ask the others. The public kitchen/dining-room we looked at is booked. Any suggestions? latcui 5.07 – longitudes 45 & 47 Last Week How awesome, unusual and life-affirming that you can ask at the last minute if people want to suddenly come to dinner tomorrow – and get a full house. People piled in with their prizes – vast trunks of oozing marinated salmon, tender slivers of beetroot and aubergine, layer upon layer of secretive flavours (a Kiev chicken stuffed with sweet lemon!). My dad, usually diffident in the culinary shadow cast by my mother’s skills and inventions, revealed himself to have been taking careful notes all this time… so poignant in our evening’s reference to espionage. We ran out of glasses and had to drain the digestifs in any glass available – including ashtrays & jamjars. Our company, as ever, was glorious. This Week Double whammy! Dear guests, A vast and deep thank you for accompanying us on our round-the-world journey. Your support and attendance were deeply appreciated. It was a huge pleasure hosting so many wonderful people, and we hope you found it a memorable accompaniment to the London Olympics (a lot of its athletes clearly did – visiting us for a well-earned drink at our late-night bar after 4 years hard grind). Our blog and Facebook page have images of most of the evenings, with the few blankspots soon to be filled. If you had a good time at Global Feast, please let us know; your recommendations are the best way to help the success of future events. You can write a recommendation on our Facebook page or send us your thoughts directly. Similarly, if you have feedback on how we can improve our offering, we’d love to hear from you. The Future Stratford Old Town Hall are going to take ownership of Worldscape and run events on it from this moment forwards, accompanied by a late-night bar! If you missed Global Feast, have no fear: Worldscape will still be here to welcome you to yet more incredible, interactive dining experiences. Stratford will be running the World Bistro and Late Bar and dinners throughout and beyond the Paralympics (chefs tbc), with a very special culminating dinner to cap this extraordinary summer on the very last night – on Sunday 9th September. The venue and table will be open to the public for the forseeable future, but also available for private hire for a wide range of events – please contact Alison Davenport on 07791 291 685 if you’d be interested in the latter. This week on Latitude, we take a look at Week One of Global Feast - Wednesday 25th July – Sunday 29th July. Read on to hear more about Chris Massamba who opens the Feast on the 25th with his vegan take on West African cuisine. Love Italian food and wine? Then you will have to come to Mediterranean night on the 26th when chef duties are shared between The Italian Supper Club and Cinzia Ghignoi, Head Chef at The Table. Fancy being close to the Opening Ceremony fireworks? Then come to the Feast on the 27th and feast on the best of British cuisine from Wales, Scotland and England. If the fresh tastes of Swedish cuisine is your thing (topped off with the best German cheesecake ever), then we’ll see you at Northern European night on the 28th. And last, but not least, end the week with Arno Maasdorp from one of London’s top supper clubs, the Saltoun Supper Club, with his unique interpretation of Central Africa. Wow. Wednesday, 25th July, West African (Opening Dinner) Our guest chef for Opening Night is Chris Massamba from Full House Supper Club and Sundia Food. Chris was born in the Congo and grew up in Paris. He has been a gourmet chef for over 14 years. He is a vegan and Raw foodie, and founder of Sundia Food. Sundia is a word fused from two languages, the “sun” in English and the “Dia” in Kikongo which translates to : “to eat the sun”. He runs the first raw food supper in London (Full House), which featured on the River Cottage for Channel 4 Television and his unique food delights has also earned him many mentions in magazines. You can read an interview with Chris that was featured in Glamour magazine. Thursday 26th July, Mediterranean The Italian Supper Club was established in 2011 by three Italian food and wine lovers, Silvio, Chiara and Toto. Their aim is to bring the unique atmosphere and authentic flavour of the ‘Bel Paese’ to East London. Chef Toto started cooking at the age of 12 and hasn’t stopped since. His passion is not just for food, but for the Italian culture of eating, socialising and the experimenting with regional specialties.   They say of thier supper clubs, “The main ingredients of our events are food, wine and people – the first two must be Italian and the third one should simply have a big smile when they arrive and a bigger one when they leave.” Silvio is an Italian wine expert and he has choosen some great Italy wines to accompany the meal.Here at Feast HQ, we are looking forward to getting stuck in! Italian chef Cinzia Chignoni from The Table Cafe restaurant will also be sharing chef duties on Mediterranean night. Cinzia is the new head chef at Southwark favourite The Table, where she has just put together a modern Italian menu, using top quality British ingredients. Originally from Milan, she has been based in London for the past 22 years. Her impressive pedigree includes working with the likes of Angela Hartnett and at Soho’s Duck Soup. Friday 27th July, British (Olympic Opening Ceremony) Denise Baker-Mclean from the Moel Faban Secret Supper Club is our Welsh guest chef for British night. Denise’s trademark is hearty wholesome well cooked food. As she explains, “It’s not always fancy, but is always made with the best ingredients available and to the highest standards.” Denise won the Welsh regional heats on Britains Best Dish last year and received a nomination for the North Wales local food hero awards in 2011. Moel Faban supper club has featured in the Sunday Times, Elle Decoration magazine and the Welsh press. Guest Chef: Aoife Behan is our Scottish guest chef for British night. Aoife Behan is one half of Jelly+Gin Productions: a dining events collective in Edinburgh. Formerly a supper club hostess, Aoife is now focusing on guerilla dining in unusual locations with Burgher Burger.   Aoife feels that Scotland has an unjustifiably bad reputation when it comes to food – “Despite the negative perception Scottish food is amazing. We have a varied larder right on our doorstep. Agriculture is thriving in Scotland and good produce is readily available. Even in the centre of Edinburgh there are great areas to forage wild garlic, elderflowers, sloe berries, quinces. Since moving here four years ago I have become very adept at urban foraging. Not something I did when i lived in Streatham!” Denise and Aoife will be joined by Ms Marmite Lover herself (aka Kerstin Rogers) who will be serving a twist on that British classic – fish and chips. Join us to watch the Opening Ceremony and bask in the glow of the Olympic fireworks! Saturday 28th July, Northern European Linn Soderstrom from Stockholm based supper club Hemma Hos Linn is flying in from Sweden to be one of our guest chefs on Northern European night. Hemma Hos Linn is a Stockholm based club where the professional chef Linn invites 10 guests once a month to her home for dinner. Every dinner has a theme, such as seafood, vegetarian, retro food or barbeque. Linn´s food is always natural, often organic and she uses a lot of wild edible herbs and flowers. Claudia Stachelhaus from The White Room Supper Club will be joining Linn as the second guest chef tonight. The Whiteroom Supper Club is an intimate underground restaurant set up by Claudia in 2010 when she decided to take a break from her banking career. Since then, in her stylish and trendy Shoreditch apartment, she has run countless supper clubs and private parties, each time enchanting her guests with seasonal European food with a German twist. Sunday 29th July, Central African Guest Chef: South African born Arno Maasdorp from the Saltoun Supper Club is our guest chef for Central African night. Arno puts his 20 years of restaurant and food experience to good use offering guests delectable delights every week at his luxurious home in Brixton. I am sure you will agree that his food is a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach and we look forward to his take on Central African cuisine.
